Mayiladuthurai is a district located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is situated in the eastern part of the state and is known for its cultural heritage and historical significance. Mayiladuthurai was formerly known as Mayavaram and is often referred to as "Mayiladurai" or simply "Mayilai" by the locals.
The district is bordered by the Bay of Bengal to the east and is surrounded by Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur districts. The Mayiladuthurai district was carved out of Nagapattinam district in the year 2021, making it one of the newest districts in Tamil Nadu.
