Agnigarh
Agnigarh is a historic and mythological site located in Tezpur, Sonitpur, Assam, on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. According to Hindu mythology, Agnigarh was a fortress built by King Banasura to keep his daughter Usha in isolation.
The name "Agnigarh" translates to "a residence amidst fire," as the fortress was surrounded by fire to prevent anyone from entering or leaving without permission. The legend goes that Usha fell in love with Aniruddha, the grandson of Lord Krishna, after seeing him in her dreams.
With the help of her companion Chitralekha, who painted Aniruddha's portrait from Usha's description, they secretly met and got married. When Banasura discovered this, he imprisoned Aniruddha, leading to a fierce battle between Lord Krishna and Banasura. The city of Tezpur, which means "city of blood," is said to have been named after this battle.
Today, Agnigarh is a beautiful park with landscaped gardens, sculptures depicting the legend, and a panoramic view of the Brahmaputra River and Tezpur town. It's a popular spot for tourists and locals alike.
