Declared a sanctuary in 1986, it features a mix of degraded scrub forest and patches of wooded land with trees like Acacia catechu (Khair), Aegle marmelos (Bel), Butea monosperma (Palas), and Albizia species.
The sanctuary is home to diverse wildlife, including barking deer, chinkara, hare, porcupine, jungle cat, monitor lizard, and migratory species such as hyena, jackal, wolf, and wild boar. Birdlife includes peafowl, quail, partridge, egret, crane, stork, and eagle, making it a favored spot for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers. The sanctuary is near the Aner Dam and is best visited between November and February, with accommodations available nearby in Shirpur.
