Asadgad
Asadgad Fort, also known as Akola Fort, is one of the major fortifications in the Akola district of Maharashtra. The fort was built in 1697 by Asad Khan during the reign of Aurangzeb.
It played a significant role in the region's history, including serving as a camp for Arthur Wellesley before the Battle of Argaon in the Second Anglo-Maratha War in 1803. The fort is known for its simple yet robust construction, with large granite stone blocks, mud blocks, clay bricks, woods, irons, and mortars. It features several inscriptions and observation spots on its main walls.
Although the fort was dismantled by the British Raj in 1870, it remains a historical landmark with a rich past.
