It is the home ground of the Assam cricket team and is operated by the Assam Cricket Association. The stadium has a seating capacity of around 40,000, extendable up to 55,000, making it the largest sports stadium in Northeast India.
Inaugurated in 2017, it became India's 49th international cricket venue, hosting its first international match, a T20I between India and Australia, in the same year.
