Badalkhol Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected area in the Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh, covering about 104 square kilometers. It lies along the banks of the Ib and Dodki rivers and features a mix of moist and dry tropical deciduous forests. Once the hunting grounds of the Maharaja of Jashpur, it was declared a sanctuary in 1975 to protect its rich biodiversity.
The sanctuary serves as a habitat for a variety of animals including Indian elephants, Bengal tigers, leopards, Indian wolves, sloth bears, spotted deer, chinkara (Indian gazelle), nilgai, and wild boars. It is also home to numerous bird species such as peacocks, owls, partridges, and storks, along with reptiles like Indian pythons and cobras. The forest hosts important tree species including teak, sal, dhawda, saja, and flame of the forest, among others.
