Barela Bird Sanctuary, officially known as Baraila Lake Salim Ali-Jubba Sahni Bird Sanctuary, is located in Vaishali district, Bihar. Established as a protected area in 1997, it spans approximately 1.96 square kilometers and centers around Baraila Lake.
The sanctuary hosts about 106 species of local birds and 59 species of migratory birds, including Indian shag, red collared dove, Asian koel, green bee-eater, brahminy starling, black ibis, ruddy shelduck, bar-headed goose, oriental magpie robin, and lesser whistling duck.
The lake and sanctuary play a vital ecological role in the region, supporting a diverse range of wildlife and serving as an important habitat for migratory birds on the Gangetic plains. It holds cultural significance as well, with local beliefs linking the area to Lord Rama.
