Bhalki Fort
Bhalki Fort in Bidar, Karnataka, is a historic fort built between 1820 and 1850 by Ramachandra Jadhav and Dhanaji Jadhav under King Jang Bahadur. The fort covers around five acres and features 7-meter-high quadrangle walls made from locally sourced black stone and lime mortar. Originally an arms and ammunition depot for the Maratha army, it later came under the possession of the Nizam of Hyderabad during British rule.
The fort contains two important temples: Kumbheshwar Temple inside the fort and Bhalkeshwar Temple nearby. Despite its architectural significance and historical value, many structures remain in ruins due to poor maintenance. Part of the old fort premises now serves as a primary school, illustrating a blend of historic past and present-day use.
The fort is located near Bhalki town and is surrounded by natural vegetation, adding to its scenic and historical appeal.
