Bhatghar Dam is a gravity dam located on the Velvandi River near Bhor, Pune district, Maharashtra. Constructed by the British during the British Raj, it is one of the oldest dams in Maharashtra, completed in 1927. The dam stands at a height of 57.92 meters (190 feet) and has a length of 1,625 meters (5,331 feet). It serves multiple purposes, including irrigation and hydroelectricity, with an installed capacity of 16 MW.
The reservoir created by the dam covers an area of 31.9 square kilometers (12.3 square miles) and has a total capacity of 666 million cubic meters (23.5 billion cubic feet). The dam also features an automatic spillway with a capacity of 1600 cubic meters per second.
