Bhavani Mandap
The Bhavani Mandap is a historical building situated in the walled city center of Kolhapur, Maharashtra. It is located near the famous Mahalaxmi Temple on the west. Built between 1785 and 1800 by Shivaji Maharaj II, it was originally a royal palace and durbar (court) of the Chhatrapati Maharaja.
The Mandap has a rich history and has been a venue for important meetings, litigations, and celebrations. It also houses a life-size statue of Kolhapur's beloved prince, Shahu Maharaj, and displays stuffed animals hunted by him. The central courtyard is where the famous murder of Shambhu alias Abasaheb Maharaj took place.
