Bhupatgad Fort
Bhupatgad Fort is a small hill fort located in the Jawhar taluka of Palghar district, Maharashtra, about 130 km from Thane. It sits on a northern spur of hills near the villages of Kurlod and Zaap and is accessible after an easy one-hour trek. The fort has minimal remaining fortifications except for two ruined entrance gates, rock-cut water cisterns, and statues of Mhasoba and Hanuman.
Historically, the fort was significant for watching over the Trimbak-Wada trade route and was part of the Jawhar princely state until 1947. It was included in the Swarajya by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and later captured by the Mughals in the late 17th century.
The fort offers scenic views of nearby areas like Tringalwadi, Harihar, Trimbakeshwar, Jawhar, and Mokhada, making it a favored spot for trekking and history enthusiasts. Despite its ruins, it remains an important cultural and historical site in the region.
