Bor Wildlife Sanctuary
Bor Wildlife Sanctuary, located near Hingani in Wardha district of Maharashtra, is the smallest tiger reserve in India, covering approximately 138 square kilometers. Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1970 and declared a tiger reserve in 2014, it surrounds the Bor Dam and features dry deciduous forests dominated by teak, ain, tendu, and bamboo.
The sanctuary is rich in wildlife, hosting Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, sloth bears, Indian bison, nilgai, chital, sambar deer, barking deer, wild boars, and over 160 bird species, including migratory and endangered birds. It also shelters diverse reptiles like Indian cobras and pythons. Conservation efforts, including habitat preservation and tiger breeding programs, have increased the tiger population in the reserve.
The sanctuary's core zone, buffer zone, and eco-tourism zone offer a balance of protection and public access, making it a significant site for wildlife and nature enthusiasts. The best time to visit is from October to May.
