Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary
Chakrashila Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Kokrajhar district and some adjacent areas of Dhubri district in Assam, India, covering an area of about 45.568 square kilometers. It was first declared a reserve forest in 1966 and became a wildlife sanctuary in 1994 due to its rich biodiversity and ecological importance. The sanctuary is well-known as the second protected habitat for the endangered golden langur, hosting over 600 individuals.
The terrain is mainly hilly with two important lakes, Dheer Beel and Diplai Beel, supporting diverse flora like sal trees and mixed deciduous forests. It shelters a variety of wildlife including mammals such as the Indian short-tailed mole, rhesus macaque, and Asiatic jackal, along with 119 bird species including hornbills and several reptiles and butterflies.
Efforts are ongoing to upgrade its status to a national park to enhance conservation measures.
