Chandan Fort
Chandan Fort, situated in Satara district of Maharashtra on a hilly spur of the Sahyadri range, is a historical fort built around 1191-1192 by King Bhoj-II of the Shilahar Dynasty. It is part of the "Twin Forts" along with the adjacent Vandan Fort, both of which were captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in 1673.
The fort is known for its moderate trek and rich cultural significance, housing a Gaus Pak Baba Dargah, an ancient Shiva temple with Linga sculptures, water cisterns, bastions, and several storerooms. The entrance gate is mostly in ruins but the rest of the fort remains in good condition.
The fort is surrounded by villages known for cultivating sugarcane and other crops, and it is particularly popular with trekkers and pilgrims during the month of Shravan when religious festivities take place. Overall, it offers a mix of history, spirituality, and scenic views of the Sahyadri mountains.
