Chandoli National Park, established as a national park in 2004 and located mainly in Sangli district of Maharashtra, is part of the larger Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, which also includes the Koyna Wildlife Sanctuary. The park covers about 317.67 square kilometers across Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, and Ratnagiri districts and lies along the Sahyadri Range of the Western Ghats.
It features diverse ecosystems such as moist deciduous forests, grasslands, and freshwater bodies, supported by the Warna River and other streams. The park is rich in wildlife, including Bengal tigers, Indian leopards, gaurs, sloth bears, barking deer, and many bird species, with around 123 species of birds recorded. It also has a rocky terrain with lateritic plateaus and caves.
Known for its biodiversity and scenic trekking trails, Chandoli includes historical sites like the 17th-century Prachitgad and Bhairavgad forts linked to the Maratha kingdom. Visitors can enjoy wildlife safaris, birdwatching, boating in Tulsi Lake, and trekking through forested areas, making it a key conservation and recreation destination in Maharashtra's Western Ghats.
The park is open for visitors mainly in the early morning and late afternoon and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site recognized for its ecological importance.
