The fort holds historical significance as it was captured by the Maratha king Shivaji Maharaj from Chandrarao More in 1656 and later played a strategic role in monitoring the Varandha Ghat trade routes through the Krishna River valley.
Situated near the village of Dhavale in Poladpur taluka, the fort is surrounded by forested hills and features about 14 rock-cut water tanks, dilapidated structures, and a Shiva temple called Dhavaleshwar Mahadev. It is accessible by trekking from Dhavale village and offers panoramic views of the surrounding Sahyadri hills with historical ruins reflecting its Maratha past.
