Chauler Fort/Chaurgad
Chauler Fort, also known as Chaurgad or Chalheri, is a small hill fort located about 100 kilometers north of Nashik in Maharashtra, near the town of Satana. The fort stands at an elevation of approximately 3,700 feet above sea level and shares historical similarities with the nearby Salher and Mulher forts. It was ruled by King Gawali before coming under Mughal control in 1637 and later being conquered by the Marathas.
The fort features three impressive entrance gates, rock-cut water tanks, and remnants of old buildings and fortifications in ruins. Visitors can find temples dedicated to Lord Chaurangnath and Lord Hanuman on the fort, and it offers stunning views of the Satmala and Selbari-Dolbari mountain ranges.
The fort is reachable via the base village Wadi Chaulher, and while it is in a state of ruin, it is a notable example of Maratha-era architecture and history.
