Chawand Fort (PRASANNAGAD)

Chawand Fort, also known as Prasannagad, is a historic hill fortress situated in the Junnar Taluka of Pune district, Maharashtra. Perched at an elevation of 3,399 feet above sea level, it is part of the picturesque Sahyadri mountain range. The fort has a rich history, with remnants of construction dating back over 800 years, having been under the control of various rulers, including the Nizam Shahi Dynasty, the Maratha Confederacy, and the British East India Company.

One of the standout features of Chawand Fort is the large stone entrance door, known as the Mahadarwaja, which has withstood the test of time and remains structurally intact. Within the fort's precincts, several water tanks carved from single stones, referred to as the Saptamatruka tanks, highlight the architectural ingenuity of the past.
