Chitradurga Fort
Chitradurga Fort, also known as Chitaldoorg, is a historic fortification located in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka, India. The fort spans several hills and a peak, offering a picturesque view of the surrounding flat valley. The name "Chitrakaldurga" means "picturesque fort" in Kannada, and it is the namesake of the town Chitradurga and its administrative district.
The fort was built in stages between the 11th and 13th centuries by various dynastic rulers, including the Chalukyas and Hoysalas. The Nayakas of Chitradurga, also known as Palegar Nayakas, were primarily responsible for the fort's expansion between the 15th and 18th centuries. The fort was briefly taken over by Hyder Ali in 1779 and later captured by the British forces when they defeated his son Tipu Sultan.
