Dativare Fort
Dativare Fort, also known as Hira Dongar, is located in Palghar district, Maharashtra, about 72 km from Vasai. It sits on a small hillock near the Vaitarna River, which flows towards Arnala Fort. The fort is believed to have been built by the Portuguese and later came under Maratha control during Chimaji Appa’s campaign in 1739. It served as a strategic coastal bastion, possibly used to intercept ships with long-range artillery.
The fort's remains include a semicircular wall and bastion, constructed with stone, clay, lime, conch shell, and rice husk. The site is modest in size and condition, with only a few ruins left to see, making it a place of historical interest primarily for those curious about the maritime trade routes and coastal defense history in the region.
The nearest town for access is Saphale, and the trek to the fort is relatively easy, taking about half an hour to reach the entrance.
