Deepor Beel Bird Sanctuary, also known as Dipor Bil, is a large permanent freshwater lake and wetland located on the southwestern outskirts of Guwahati in Kamrup Metropolitan district, Assam. It was formed as a former channel of the Brahmaputra River and covers about 4.1 square kilometers of protected area, extending up to 40 square kilometers during the monsoon season.
Declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1989 and recognized as a Ramsar wetland site in 2002, it is highly valued for its rich biodiversity and environmental importance. The sanctuary provides critical habitat for over 150 bird species, including many migratory birds such as the Siberian crane and endangered species like the greater adjutant stork and spot-billed pelican.
