Deolgaon‑Rehkuri Wildlife Sanctuary

Deolgaon-Rehkuri Wildlife Sanctuary, located in Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, covers about 2.17 square kilometers and was established in 1980 primarily to protect the Indian Blackbuck, locally known as "Kalvit." The sanctuary features dry deciduous scrub forests and grasslands, providing an ideal habitat not only for Blackbucks—estimated at around 400 to 500—but also for other wildlife such as Chinkara (Indian gazelle), Indian wolf, Indian fox, and jackals.

Bird species are also abundant, making it a good spot for birdwatching. The sanctuary is notable for its ancient rock-cut caves and inscriptions dating back to the Mauryan period around 300 BCE, adding archaeological significance. It lies near the village of Rehekuri in Karjat Taluka and offers a combination of natural beauty and cultural heritage. The nearest railway station is Ahmednagar, and the closest airport is in Aurangabad.

The sanctuary is open year-round, with the best wildlife sightings often in the early morning and late afternoon. Its vegetation includes species like Neem, Khair, Babul, Sissoo, and Sandalwood, supporting the rich biodiversity of the region.
