Dharashiv Caves
The Dharashiv Caves are a group of ancient rock-cut caves located about 8 kilometers from Osmanabad city in the Balaghat mountains of Maharashtra. These caves are significant for their historical and religious importance, and they have been declared a protected area by the Government of Maharashtra.
There are seven caves in total, and they are believed to have been originally Buddhist, later converted into Jain monuments. The caves feature intricate carvings and statues, including a central hall with a colossal image of the Buddha in Padmasana (meditative posture) in Cave No. 2.
The caves also have cells for the residence of Buddhist monks and Jain Tirthankara statues.
