Dhyanganga Wildlife Sanctuary

Dnyanganga Wildlife Sanctuary is a protected natural area located about 8 to 28 kilometers from Buldhana city in Maharashtra, near the Dnyanganga River. Spanning around 205 square kilometers, the sanctuary features two lakes and an undulating terrain with gentle hillocks.

It is part of the Melghat Tiger Reserve, highlighting its importance in tiger and broader wildlife conservation. The forest mainly consists of Southern tropical dry deciduous trees such as teak and anjan. The sanctuary is home to diverse wildlife including leopards, sloth bears, barking deer, blue bulls (nilgai), spotted deer, hyenas, jungle cats, jackals, and occasionally tigers.

Over 150 bird species also inhabit the area. The best time to visit is from January to June, with optimal wildlife sightings between February and May. The climate varies widely, with hot summers reaching up to 49°C and colder winters. Conservation efforts have led to improved habitat conditions, including control of grazing and enhanced forest management, supporting a growing presence of species like the Indian gaur.
