Dodda Basavana Temple, popularly known as the Bull Temple, is a historic Hindu temple located in the Basavanagudi area of South Bengaluru, Karnataka. Built in 1537 by Kempe Gowda I, the founder of Bangalore city, it is dedicated to Nandi, Lord Shiva's sacred bull and vehicle. The temple is renowned for housing one of the largest monolithic granite statues of Nandi in the world, measuring about 15 feet high and 21 feet long.
The statue is regularly anointed with butter, which has darkened its surface over time. The temple complex also features idols of the Sun God and Moon God, along with the nearby Dodda Ganeshana Gudi, a unique temple with a butter idol of Lord Ganesha that is remade every four years.
The temple is built in the Vijayanagara architectural style and is a major religious and tourist attraction, with the annual Kadalekai Parishe (groundnut fair) held here drawing large crowds. It is situated within Bugle Rock Park, known for its ancient rock formations and panoramic views.
