East Karbi-Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary

East Karbi-Anglong Wildlife Sanctuary in Assam spans an area of about 222 square kilometers and is located around 35 kilometers from Diphu city in the Karbi Anglong district.

Established in 2000, the sanctuary is part of the Karbi Anglong-Kaziranga landscape and plays a crucial role in conserving diverse flora and fauna. The terrain ranges from 80 to 500 meters in elevation and features tropical semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests. It is home to a rich variety of wildlife, including majestic mammals like tigers, elephants, leopards, gaurs, and bears, as well as smaller species such as the hoolock gibbon, pig-tailed macaque, and Indian pangolin.

The sanctuary supports around 260 species of birds, including hornbills, green pigeons, drongos, and orioles, some of which are migratory visitors from places like Tibet, China, and Siberia. Reptiles like king cobras, pythons, and monitor lizards are also found here.

The sanctuary's diverse ecosystems and scenic beauty make it important for wildlife protection, eco-tourism, and maintaining ecological balance in the region. The best visiting season is from November to April when the forest and wildlife are most active.
