Ghangad Fort
Ghangad Fort, also known as Ghanagad Fort, is a historic hill fort situated near the Tamhini Ghat area, approximately 30 kilometers from Lonavala and 100 kilometers from Pune, Maharashtra. The fort stands at an elevation of around 3000 feet and is part of the Sahyadri mountain range. It was built during the Maratha era and played a significant role in keeping watch on the trade route from Pune to Konkan.
The fort is accessible via a trekking route that starts from the base village of Ekole. The trek is relatively easy and takes about 30 minutes to reach the entrance gate of the fort. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy the scenic beauty of the dense forest and the surrounding hills. The fort itself features two gates, with the main entrance gate having an arch missing.
There is also a rock-cut water cistern on the way to the second gate, providing a source of drinking water throughout the year.
