Ghargad
Ghargad Fort, also known as Gadgada Fort, is a lesser-visited historic hill fort located about 23 kilometers from Nashik in Maharashtra, situated in the Amboli hill range. It played a strategic role in the region's history and was under control of local rulers before being captured by the British in 1818, shortly after the fall of the nearby Trymbakgad Fort. The fort’s footpath was deliberately destroyed by the British, making access challenging.
Today, Ghargad is popular among trekkers who enjoy its rugged terrain, scenic views, and remnants of stone walls and structures. The fort offers an adventurous experience in a relatively remote and tranquil natural setting near Nashik. The nearby village Gadgada Sangvi serves as an entry point for visitors. Ghargad remains a significant yet quiet historical site reflecting Maharashtra's fort heritage.
