Ghosale Gad Fort, located near Roha in Raigad district, Maharashtra, is a hill fort known for its strategic importance in monitoring trade routes through the Western Ghats. The fort is built on a narrow strip around a small hill and dates back to before Shivaji Maharaj's time, with its history involving control by the Adil Shah of Bijapur, Maratha ruler Shivaji Maharaj, Siddhi, and later the British.
The fort features rock-cut water cisterns, caves, an escape gate, and remnants of cannons, and is surrounded by scenic views of the Sahyadri mountain range. It served as a watchtower and refuge for trade protection and witnessed several battles and sieges over the centuries. The trek to the fort is considered moderate, offering a peaceful experience amidst nature and history.
