Gurpa Hills, also known as Gurupada Giri, is a significant natural and historical site located about 50 kilometers from Gaya in Bihar, near the Bihar-Jharkhand border. It is revered in Buddhist tradition as the place where Mahakasyapa, the last disciple of Buddha, attained Nirvana and is believed to be meditating in deep samadhi, waiting for the coming of the future Buddha, Maitreya.
The hill is one of the tallest peaks in the Gangetic plains, featuring a temple called Gurupada that is said to house the footprints of Lord Vishnu, making it a spiritual destination for both Buddhists and Hindus. The area is noted for its scenic beauty with forests, waterfalls, and panoramic views that attract pilgrims and nature lovers year-round.
Trekking to the peak involves climbing 1,680 steps surrounded by lush greenery, and visitors can explore ancient caves and stupas while enjoying a peaceful environment ideal for meditation and reflection. The best time to visit is from September to April.
