Jijamata Udyaan, also known as Victoria Gardens or Byculla Zoo, is Mumbai's oldest public garden, established in 1861 and formally opened in 1862. Originally named after Queen Victoria, it was renamed post-independence in honor of Jijabai Bhonsle, the mother of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The garden spans over 60 acres in Byculla and features botanical gardens, a zoo, and the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum housed in a beautiful Greco-Roman style building. The entrance sports a distinctive triple-arched gateway in Neo-Palladian style, and the park includes landmarks like the David Sassoon clock tower and an equestrian statue of King Edward VII.
