Kamal Basti
Kamal Basti, also known as Kamala Basadi, is a historic Jain temple located within the Belagavi Fort in Belagavi (formerly Belgaum), Karnataka. Built in 1204 CE during the reign of the Ratta dynasty, this temple is a fine example of the Late Chalukyan architectural style. The temple is dedicated to Lord Neminatha, the 22nd Tirthankara in Jainism.
The name "Kamal Basti" derives from the intricate lotus (kamal) carvings on the ceiling of the temple's central dome. The lotus has 72 petals, symbolizing the 24 Tirthankaras of the past, present, and future. The temple's architecture features beautifully carved pillars, a richly adorned doorway, and a mukhamantapa (pillared hall) that is considered an architectural masterpiece.
Adjacent to Kamal Basti is another Jain temple known as Chikki Basadi, adding to the spiritual and historical significance of the site. The serene ambiance and exquisite craftsmanship make Kamal Basti a must-visit for history enthusiasts and devotees alike.
