Karanja Sohol Wildlife Sanctuary
Karanja Sohol Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Karanja talukas of Washim district, Maharashtra, was established in 2000 primarily to protect and preserve the blackbuck population.
The sanctuary spans about 18.32 square kilometers and features a landscape of grasslands and dry broadleaf forests with species like teak, Coromandel ebony, and Indian rosewood. It is home to diverse wildlife, including mammals like blackbuck, chinkara, wolves, Indian foxes, spotted deer, and sambar, as well as a variety of bird species, reptiles, and amphibians.
The sanctuary lies within the catchment area of the Aadan reservoir, providing important aquatic habitats and attracting migratory waterfowl during winter. Despite human interference and livestock grazing near its borders, it remains an important ecological zone for biodiversity conservation and serves as a habitat for both flora and fauna in the region.
