Kelve Fort
Kelve Fort, also known as Kelwa Fort, is a historic fort located in the Thane district of Maharashtra, about 12.5 kilometers from Palghar. The fort was originally built by the Portuguese in the 16th century and later used by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaja during his Maratha rule. It stands amidst the Casuarina plantation on Kelwa Beach and offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea.
The fort is in a ruined condition, but its outer walls, steps, parapets, and bastions are still in excellent order and worth seeing. The fort is rectangular in shape, with an entrance gate facing east, followed by another gate at a right angle. There are four triangular bastions on the corners of the fort, each with windows and holes for guns.
