KrishnaRajaSagara Dam

KrishnaRajaSagara (KRS) Dam, located near Mysuru in Karnataka, is an engineering marvel and a major landmark in the region. Constructed across the Kaveri River, this dam was built during the early 20th century under the visionary leadership of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, an eminent engineer and statesman.

Named after the then Maharaja of Mysuru, Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, the dam has played a crucial role in the region's agriculture and water management.

The KRS Dam spans an impressive length of 3 kilometers and stands at a height of about 130 feet. It is primarily used for irrigation, supplying water to the fertile agricultural lands of Mandya, Mysuru, and beyond. Additionally, the dam serves as a vital source of drinking water for several towns and cities in Karnataka.

Its reservoir, often referred to as the Krishna Raja Sagara Lake, is one of the largest in the state, with a capacity of over 49 billion cubic feet.

The area surrounding the KRS Dam is also known for the beautifully landscaped Brindavan Gardens, which lie just below the dam. These gardens attract numerous visitors with their lush greenery, symmetrical layouts, and mesmerizing musical fountain shows. The sight of water gushing through the dam's gates, especially during the monsoon season, adds to the spectacular views, drawing both tourists and locals.
