Maharashtra Nature Park

Maharashtra Nature Park, nestled in the heart of Mumbai near Dharavi, is a remarkable example of urban ecological transformation. Once a sprawling garbage dumping ground, this 37-acre expanse has been meticulously converted into a lush green sanctuary that now serves as a vital lung for the city.

Established in 1994, the park is a haven for biodiversity, boasting over 14,000 trees and more than 580 species of plants, including medicinal herbs, spices, and native forest flora. It is bordered by the Mithi River and features a mix of natural and artificial water bodies, enhancing its ecological richness.

The park is a favorite among nature enthusiasts, bird watchers, and students, offering a peaceful retreat from the city's chaos. Visitors can stroll along the Shanti Path, a serene trail shaded by dense foliage, or explore themed sections like the Butterfly Garden, Vermicompost Zone, and the Medicinal Plant Area.

The park is also home to a wide variety of fauna, including over 125 species of birds, numerous butterflies, reptiles like cobras and lizards, and small mammals such as bats and squirrels. Educational programs, workshops, and guided nature walks are regularly organized to promote environmental awareness and conservation.
