Mahimangad
Mahimangad is a hill fort located in the Maan taluka of Satara district, Maharashtra, roughly 51 km south of Phaltan city. It was built as part of a chain of forts to guard the important historical trade route from Mahad to Bijapur and protect Satara's eastern frontier.
The fort stands about 3,000 feet above sea level and features a triangular flat top with steep slopes, making it strategically strong and difficult to conquer. It has well-preserved ramparts, a unique gateway adorned with elephant carvings, rock-cut water tanks, and a Hanuman temple on its summit.
The fort's garrison historically consisted of 75 soldiers, mainly Ramoshis and Mahars, who were beneficiaries of the land around it. The site offers scenic views of surrounding hills and forts and can be reached easily via the Satara-Pandharpur road, making it a popular trekking and heritage spot in the region.
