Mandaragiri Jain Temple, also known as Basadi Betta, is a significant Jain pilgrimage site located in Tumkur district, Karnataka. This temple complex is renowned for its historical and architectural importance, featuring structures that date back to the 12th century.
The temple is dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras, including Chandraprabha, Parshvanatha, and Suparshvanatha. One of the most striking features of the temple is the Guru Mandir, an 81-foot structure designed to resemble a peacock feather fan, known as a pinchi, which is used by Digambara monks. This unique architectural design has earned the temple the nickname "Peacock Temple."
Near the Guru Mandir stands a 21-foot monolithic statue of Chandraprabha, adding to the temple's grandeur. The temple complex also includes four ancient shrines enclosed within a massive stone wall adorned with paintings of Jain Tirthankaras. The entrance gate features intricately carved pillars depicting elephants and an image of a Tirthankara seated on a lotus pedestal.
