Mayureswar Wildlife Sanctuary is a small protected area located in Tehsil Baramati, Pune district, Maharashtra, about 74 km from Pune city. Established in 1997, the sanctuary covers an area of approximately 5.14 square kilometers and features mostly dry deciduous scrub forests with species like Acacia, Dalbergia, and Ziziphus along with interspersed grasslands.
It is home to diverse wildlife including Indian gazelle (chinkara), striped hyena, Indian gray wolf, jackal, Indian fox, and various birds such as Indian roller, black-winged kite, and migratory species like European roller during winter. The sanctuary offers opportunities for wildlife spotting and birdwatching, and visitors can drive their own vehicles or walk inside the sanctuary. The best time to visit is from late August to February when the weather is mild and ideal for nature exploration.
