Nandur Madhameshwar Wildlife Sanctuary

Nandur Madhameshwar Wildlife Sanctuary in Nashik, Maharashtra, is an ecologically rich wetland area spread over about 10,000 hectares, with a core protected zone of roughly 1,765 hectares. It lies at the confluence of the Godavari and Kadva rivers and is often referred to as the "Bharatpur of Maharashtra" due to its importance for birdlife.

Established around 1986 and designated a Ramsar site, the sanctuary supports a diverse habitat of lakes, marshes, and riparian forests, nurturing over 265 bird species including many migratory birds such as the Eastern Imperial Eagle, Woolly-necked Stork, and Eurasian Spoonbill.

The sanctuary also hosts a variety of mammals like leopards and barking deer, as well as numerous aquatic plants and fish species that maintain its vibrant ecosystem. Rich in flora such as babul, tamarind, neem, and Indian sandalwood, the sanctuary offers multiple watchtowers and boating experiences for visitors to observe wildlife, making it a significant site for conservation, eco-tourism, and birdwatching in western India.

Its wetlands play a crucial role in biodiversity conservation and water regulation in the region.
