Narahari Hill
Narahari Hill, also known as Narahari Parvatha, is a sacred hill located near Melkar in Dakshina Kannada, Karnataka. The hill stands at an elevation of about 1,000 feet above sea level and is renowned for the Narahari Parvatha Sadashiva Temple at its summit. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is often referred to as the "Kailasa of the Earth" due to its serene and spiritual ambiance.
According to legend, the divine forms of Nara (Arjuna) and Hari (Krishna) performed penance on this hill to atone for their sins from the Kurukshetra war. Lord Hari is believed to have sculpted the sacred ponds on the hill, known as Teerthakoopas, in the shapes of a Conch (Shanka), Wheel (Chakra), Mace (Gadha), and Lotus (Padma). These ponds are considered holy, and taking a dip in them is believed to be spiritually purifying.
The temple is a popular pilgrimage site, especially during festivals like Aati Amavasya, Sona Amavasya, Shivaratri, Nag Panchami, and Ganesh Chaturthi. The climb to the temple involves ascending 333 steps, which symbolizes a spiritual journey.
