Painganga Wildlife Sanctuary, located in the Yavatmal district of Maharashtra, spans about 325 square kilometers across the forests on both sides of the Painganga River, which forms a natural boundary between Yavatmal and Nanded districts. Established in 1986, the sanctuary is known for its dry teak and southern mixed deciduous forests, supporting diverse flora including arjun, amla, kadamba, and moringa.
It is home to a variety of wildlife such as leopards, sloth bears, four-horned antelope, sambar, nilgai, chinkara, and jackals, alongside smaller mammals and a variety of reptiles and birds like vultures, kingfishers, and cuckoos. The sanctuary’s rich biodiversity and scenic landscape make it popular with nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts, offering trekking and safari experiences.
