Pataleshwar Temple
The Pataleshwar Cave Temple, also known as Panchaleshvara Temple or Bamburde Temple, is an ancient rock-cut cave temple located on Jangli Maharaj Road in Shivajinagar, Pune. Carved out in the 8th century during the Rashtrakuta period, this temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is made of basalt rock and features a cube-shaped sanctum housing a Shiva Linga, along with two smaller cells on each side.
One of the unique features of the Pataleshwar Temple is the circular Nandi Mandapa in front of the cave, supported by massive square pillars. The temple also has statues of various Hindu deities such as Lord Ram, Sita, Lakshman, and Ganesh.
The temple is now maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and is a protected monument.
