The fort is located in a thickly forested area rich in medicinal plants and offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape including the confluence of Manair and Godavari rivers.
Ramagiri Fort has a long history of control by various rulers, including the Kakatiyas, Bahmani Sultan Ahmed Shah I who occupied it in 1433, the Qutub Shahi Sultanate, Mughals, and finally the British Raj from 1791. Architecturally, the fort is built of stone with many bastions, some octagonal in shape, with high masonry walls equipped with forge-welded cannons.
