Shirgaon Fort, also known as Shirgao Fort, is a historic fort located about 6.5 kilometers from Palghar in Maharashtra. The fort stands on the side of Shirgaon Beach and offers a glimpse into the region's rich history. Built during the Yadava dynasty in 1225 A.D., it has seen various rulers, including the Portuguese, Marathas, and the British East India Company.
The fort is in relatively good condition, with outer walls, steps, parapets, and bastions made of solid masonry.
The fort is rectangular in shape, with an east-facing entrance gate followed by another gate at a right angle. There are five bastions, with four octagonal bastions at the corners and a circular bastion at the entrance gate.
The fort also features hidden caves within its walls, adding to its historical intrigue. A five-foot cannon on the northwest bastion marks the fort's history of battles.
