Shivgad
Shivgad Fort, located about 89 kilometers from Kolhapur in Maharashtra, was an important fort during the Maratha era, serving as a strategic lookout over the Phonda Ghat trade route connecting Kolhapur to coastal ports. Surrounded by dense forests and hill slopes, it was controlled by Ramchandra Pant Amatya, one of the key feudatories during Shivaji Maharaj's reign, until Indian independence.
The fort features a dilapidated gate, two bastions, and a notable Sati stone known locally as "Ugvai Devi." The trekking route to the fort starts from Dajipur village, passing through dense jungle and taking about an hour to reach the entrance.
Shivgad holds historical significance as part of Shivaji's Swarajya and offers a rewarding experience for adventurers and nature lovers with its rich flora, fauna, and panoramic views of Konkan and surrounding forests.
