Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir
The Shri Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Wardha, Maharashtra, is a significant temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi. Built in 1905, the temple was inaugurated on 19th July 1928 by Jamnalal Bajaj, making it the first temple in India to open its doors to the lower castes, also known as "Harihans". This act of inclusivity was inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
The temple is constructed with marble and features idols of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, which are unique as they are clothed in khadi cloth instead of precious jewelry. The temple also houses a library with various books on Sanskrit, Prakrit, Vedas, Upanishads, and Bhagwat in Hindi.
