Sindhudurg Fort
Sindhudurg Fort, also known as Sindhudurg, is a historical sea fort located on an island off the coast of Malvan in the Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra. The fort was commissioned by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and constructed between 1664 and 1667. It is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.
The fort is spread over an area of 48 acres and features massive walls that are 30 feet high and 12 feet thick. The main entrance is well-concealed, making it difficult to spot from the outside. Inside the fort, you can find various temples, including the only temple dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji, built by his son Rajaram. The fort also has wells, cisterns, and ruins of ancient temples.
Visitors can reach the fort via a ferry from Malvan, and the journey offers beautiful views of the Arabian Sea. The fort is closed to tourists during the rainy season due to high tides.
