Sree Krishna Swamy Temple

Sree Krishna Swamy Temple, also known as Ambalappuzha Temple, is a revered Hindu temple located in Ambalappuzha, Alappuzha district. It is dedicated to Lord Krishna, who is worshipped here in his Parthasarathy form, which depicts him as the charioteer of Arjuna holding a whip in his right hand and a conch in his left.

Built in the 15th century by the local ruler Chembakassery Pooradam Thirunal Devanarayanan Thampuran, the temple is renowned for its distinctive Kerala architectural style. The structure includes a Chuttambalam (a building constructed around the sanctum sanctorum) adorned with mesmerizing paintings of the Dasavatharam, the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

The temple has an intriguing historical significance as well. During Tipu Sultan's invasion in 1789, the idol of Sri Krishna from Guruvayoor Temple was brought here for safekeeping. This historic connection is still remembered today.

One of the unique aspects of the Sree Krishna Swamy Temple is its famous offering of Paal Payasam, a sweet rice pudding made from rice, milk, and sugar. This offering is so renowned that it's believed that Guruvayoorappan (Lord Krishna) personally arrives every day at the time of the puja to savor this delicious treat.
