Tandulwadi Fort
Tandulwadi Fort is located near Saphale in Palghar district, Maharashtra, about 104 kilometers north of Mumbai. The fort is not a fully built structure but a series of ruins spread over the top of a mountain at an elevation of around 1,524 feet. It dates back about 800 years and was historically used as a watchtower to monitor the surrounding plains and waterways.
From the fort, one can enjoy panoramic views of nearby towns, the Zanzorli lake, and the confluence of the Surya and Vaitarna rivers. The fort is accessible from the base village of Tandulwadi, a small Varli tribal village, and the trek to the top takes about 30 minutes to reach the plateau and another hour to the summit.
Visitors can see rock-cut water tanks and remnants of a small stone wall on the southern side, though most fortifications are in ruins. The site offers a moderate trekking experience with scenic natural beauty and historical significance.
